The project Czech and Egyptian Heroines presents significant and inspiring women from Czechia and Egypt – both from history and the present day. Through the travelling exhibition of the same name and accompanying activities, it introduces personalities whose work and achievements have had a strong impact on society, culture, science, and public life, while also opening space for dialogue about the role of women in both countries.
The project was first presented in 2023 at the International Women’s Film Festival in Aswan. It subsequently travelled to several Egyptian cities, including Luxor, Cairo, Alexandria, Ismailia, and Hurghada. The idea for the project originated at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, later expanding and, under the title Czech Heroines, inspiring activities in cooperation with Czech Centres across four continents.
The project is a collaboration between the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Cairo, Czech Centres, the Faculty of Fine Arts at Helwan University, and the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. It is also supported by the European Union in Egypt and UN Women Egypt.
