In the Cairo district of Dokki, an evening dedicated to contemporary European literature took place for the second time. Significant figures from the Egyptian cultural scene read works by contemporary authors from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, and Norway.
Three so-called reading spots (Booklet, Creativo, Goethe-Institut Cairo) in the Dokki district offered the audience an experience in the form of readings from titles by contemporary European authors.
During the evening, books by Petra Hůlová (The Highest Card), Ivana Dobrakovová (Under the Sun of Turin), and Nicola Ljubić (A Man Burns) were presented. This year, the trio was also joined by Norwegian author Vigdis Hjorth (Inheritance and Environment). The audience then had the opportunity to meet Czech writer Petra Hůlová in person, who participated in the reading from her novel.
The second Egyptian Night of Literature took place in collaboration with the Czech Centers, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Cairo, the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Cairo, the Goethe-Institut Cairo, and the organization NORLA – Norwegian Literature Abroad.
Partners also included the PPF Foundation, Sefsafa Publishing House, and the Department of Czech Studies at Ain Shams University.
The project has been organized by the network of Czech Centers since 2006.
