The rich programme of the Year of Czech Music 2024 in Egypt concluded with a classical concert held at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Cairo.

In addition to Janáček’s Pohádka and the famous aria from Rusalka, the trio—Dina Islander (soprano), Shady Hanna (cello), and Elena Grechenko (Ukraine, piano)—also presented a lyrical vocal composition by Egyptian composer Abu Bakr Khayrat titled Nazraton Wahedaton (“A Single Glance”). The piece is distinguished by its fusion of Western classical tradition with Arabic melodic elements and a sensitive expression that highlights the emotional depth of both text and music. The concert thus provided a fitting and dignified conclusion to the Year of Czech Music in Egypt.
The event was part of the Year of Czech Music, which includes numerous events worldwide and marks significant anniversaries, such as the 200th anniversary of the birth of composer Bedřich Smetana.
The Czech Centre Cairo extends its thanks to all partners and guests of the year-long programme.
