The second Czech Book Club took place in Cairo, this time dedicated to Franz Kafka.
The event aims to regularly guide Cairo-based readers through classic and contemporary Czech literature. The session was once again moderated by writer and journalist Nora Nagi. Participants explored The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka, marking 100 years since the author’s death.
The Metamorphosis is a seminal surrealist story depicting the existential crisis of Gregor Samsa, who wakes up one morning transformed into a giant insect.
The Czech Book Club is organized with the ambition of becoming a regular gathering as part of the long-term project Reading Czech. In line with the project’s goals, Arabic translations of selected Czech works – as well as Czech originals or English translations – are placed in partner venues.
