Project Reading Czech systematically brings Czech literature closer to readers in Cairo – from contemporary authors like Petra Hůlová, Josef Pánek, Radka Denemarková – to world-renowned classics such as Franz Kafka and Bohumil Hrabal.
The project operates on two levels. The first level involves the distribution of copies of Arabic (or English) translations of selected authors' works to partner locations in Cairo – where they are available for reading at any time. The second level is a regular reading club, Czech Book Club led by a moderator, journalist, and writer Nora Nagi . The club is dedicated to a different book each quarter and, after nearly two years since the first club (February 2024), boasts a core of regular readers.
