On the occasion of the fifth and final book meeting of 2024, readers were introduced to the first volume of the Alois Nebel trilogy by Jaroslav Rudiš and Jaromír 99.
The critically acclaimed graphic novel, published in Czechia by Labyrint Publishing House and in Egypt in Arabic translation by Dr. Khalid El Biltagi through El Mahrousa, is set in the misty landscape of the Jeseníky Mountains, once part of the Sudetenland.
Through evocative black-and-white imagery, the protagonist recounts stories of seemingly ordinary people living on the margins of society, whose lives continue to be shaped by forgotten events across generations. Jeseník is one of many Czech border towns affected by the post–Second World War expulsion of ethnic Germans. This historical trauma profoundly influences the narrative.
