Egyptian readers and friends of Czech literature are invited to Czech Book Club #9, dedicated to Václav Havel as a writer and playwright. The collection of one-act plays Audience, Unveiling, and Protest (Citizen Vaněk) introduces the character of Vaněk, reflecting the moral dilemmas of life in Czechoslovakia under late socialism.
Written with sharp wit and autobiographical insight, the plays reveal Havel’s existential perspective “from below,” shaped by his experience working in a brewery after being banned as a playwright.
We remind you that the book can also be read at several partner locations. A list of all participating locations is available here .
