The international conference dedicated to the legacy of former Czech President Václav Havel took place for the second time in Egypt. This year's theme was disinformation.
Czech centers, together with the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Cairo, the American University in Cairo, and Ambassadors for Dialogue, organized the international conference dedicated to former Czech President Václav Havel and his legacy for the second time in Egypt. This year's venue was the prestigious American University in Cairo (AUC).
The conference comprehensively addressed the issues of disinformation and fake news. Experts from various fields, including media studies, international relations, and photography, shared their opinions (or research findings) and offered explanations on how their fields can recognize disinformation, respond to it, address its impacts, and ultimately prevent its spread.
As part of three discussion panels, the perspectives were offered by a professor of journalism and mass communication from AUC Hussein Amin , an expert on security and Middle Eastern politics Jan Daniel from the Institute of International Relations in Prague, and photographer Mohamed Mahdy, who is also the holder of the prestigious World Press Photo award .
Participants could also choose one of two workshops led by Jan Daniel ( Misinformation and Disinformation in Politics and International Relations ) or Ambassadors for Dialogue ( Reflections on the Role of Dialogue and Nonviolent Communication in Times of Disinformation ).
The event was moderated by Rana Gaber from the organization Ambassadors for Dialogue (the Dialogue Company).
