The two-day workshop guided musicians aspiring to compose their own music through the entire creative process. A jam session followed on the second day of the workshop.
Participants had the opportunity to gain skills ranging from initial inspiration to creating a finished piece using Ableton. The event was organised by the Czech Centre Cairo at The Third Place, a venue run by the partner organisation Mazra’a Network for Arts and Culture.
The workshop was led by Czech singer and multi-instrumentalist Markéta Hlaváčková, who began her musical journey as a child playing the flute and singing. Over the years, she expanded her instrumental range to include six additional instruments and completed her training with piano studies. Her musical education continued in orchestras and choirs, where she developed as a clarinetist, saxophonist, and alto/soprano singer. After moving to Prague, she focused on songwriting and independent projects.
The workshop was part of the Year of Czech Music, which includes numerous events worldwide and marks important anniversaries, such as the 200th anniversary of the birth of composer Bedřich Smetana.
