In Cairo, the evening dedicated to contemporary European literature took place for the third time. Significant figures from the Egyptian cultural scene read works by contemporary authors from the Czech Republic, Spain, and Norway.
This time, the Cairo version of the Night of Literature was held for the first time in the historically rich Downtown district. Three reading venues (Factory, Warehouse, and Access Art Space) in the heart of Cairo offered the audience an experience in the form of readings from titles by contemporary European authors.
During the evening, excerpts from the books by Radka Denemarková (Contribution to the History of Joy), Olga Merino (La Forastera), and Hanne Ørstavik (Love) were presented. Contribution to the History of Joy was recently published in Arabic translation by Khalid El Biltagi, and Radka Denemarková will also be a guest at the Cairo International Book Fair in January 2025.
The third Egyptian Night of Literature took place in collaboration with Czech Centers and the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Cairo, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Norway in Cairo, Instituto Cervantes, the organization NORLA – Norwegian Literature Abroad, and the publishing house Sefsafa Publishing House.
Partners also included Al Ismaelia for Real Estate Investment and Access Art Space.
