The outdoor wall of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Cairo currently features the exhibition Creation – Myth – Art, opened by its author and academic supervisor, Jiří Janák, in the presence of Ivan Jukl, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Cairo, along with a wide range of distinguished guests from the fields of art, journalism, and academia.
The project builds on research into ancient Egyptian religion, history, and culture, inviting visitors into a dialogue between science and art, between different cultures and artistic approaches, and between the past and the present. At its core lies the Heliopolitan version of the ancient Egyptian creation myth. Rather than being seen as an opposition to science, the myth is approached as a meaningful narrative explaining the world — expressed through storytelling and manifested through contemporary Czech art.
The exhibition presents works by Czech artists across a wide spectrum of media — from drawing, painting, and sculpture to photography and video installations. All works are based on an adapted version of the myth prepared by Jiří Janák, drawing on a wide range of ancient Egyptian sources.
Building on the exhibition’s concept, an open call is now being launched for Egyptian artists and artists based in Egypt, offering them the same source of inspiration.
